Our Staff

Integrated Physical Therapy prides itself on providing effective care with a friendly attitude. Our staff has a wide variety of experience in Physical Therapy as well as a variety of specialty areas.

Tate Vanhouten - DPT, PRC, Owner, and President  

Tate earned his undergraduate degree in Athletic Training and Pre-Med from Simpson and his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Creighton University in 2006. He has been working in the outpatient orthopaedic setting since graduating and in 2012 opened Integrated Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine. He also owns Integrated Golf Performance and is certified in Postural Restoration. He enjoys working with complicated chronic pain patients as well as golf patients and helping them realize their full potential with good biomechanics. Every year he goes to Pebble Beach and "works" at the Pro-Am. Tate is married and he likes to hunt and golf in his spare time, which is limited, as he has twins.

Sam Curtis DPT

Sam earned a bachelor's degree in human physiology and a minor in psychology from the University of Iowa in 2016. He completed his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Franklin Pierce University in Arizona in 2020. He started his career in Goodyear, Arizona before moving closer to family and friends. Sam enjoys working with a wide variety of patients including athletes, geriatrics, and weekend warriors. His clinical interests include general orthopedics, postoperative care, sports medicine, and balance impairment. Outside of work Sam enjoys playing golf, watching sports, spending time with friends and family, and playing with his dog.

Eric Held DPT

Eric received a degree in Exercise Science from Wayne State College in 2013 before earning his doctorate of Physical Therapy from Des Moines University in 2018. He practiced in rural Southeast Iowa in both orthopedic and acute care settings before returning to Des Moines and joining the Integrated PT team in 2021. Eric is a former high school and college athlete which drives his passion for athletics and physical wellness. Eric enjoys treating a broad range of musculoskeletal injuries, pre/post-surgical care, and vestibular disorders. He believes in a one-on-one treatment approach utilizing a broad range of therapeutic treatment styles to uncover the underlying source of pain or dysfunction and maximize patient care while preventing future injury. Outside of work Eric enjoys being outdoors, golfing, running, cycling, tailgating, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, and trying new restaurants in town.

Kris VanHouten DPT
Manager South Clinic

Kris graduated from Duke University with his doctorate in physical therapy after completing his undergraduate work at Central College. He enjoys combining a multitude of treatment tools including Postural Restoration, Pain Reflex Release Technique, and dry needling in the orthopedic setting to optimize his patients' function. Outside of work, Kris enjoys spending time with friends and family, golf, cycling, fishing, hunting, and following Iowa football and Duke basketball.

Andrew Gibson DPT

Drew graduated from the University of Iowa with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy in December of 2016 after completing his undergraduate studies in biochemistry with a coaching endorsement at Drake University in 2014. Following graduation Drew practiced in an outpatient orthopedic setting in the Quad Cities. While at Drake he job-shadowed with Tate and formally joined the Integrated team in January of 2019. Drew is a Dubuque native and avid Hawkeye fan and enjoys all game days, especially football. In his free time Drew participates at the local YMCA, enjoys being outside, exploring new trails, and trying new restaurants.
